AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION CORE INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Target Audience:

  • Any person planning to become a CPR, ACLS, or PALS Instructor.
  • The AHA Core Instructor Course must be completed prior to attending
         any of the CPR, ACLS, or PALS Instructor classes
  • No one will be admitted into an instructor class without the AHA Core Instructor Course completion certificate.                                                                          

Class content: 

  • Information includes adult teaching and learning principles, evaluation and remediation strategies.
  • The suggested time to complete this self-paced learning program is 8-12 hours.
  • Course may be completed on-line or per CD that accompanies the Core Instructor Course Manual. (See instructor manual insert for computer requirements to run programs)

CPR FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER - ON LINE RENEWAL

The American Heart Association has developed an on line Renewal Course for Healthcare Providers at a cost of $17.50.  The program is designed for easy online access, working at one’s own pace and includes video instruction.  If you are a LHN associate and CPR required for your job, you  must have approval from you manager to use this method.

To access the web site – go into americanheart.org/CPR.  This brings up the home page and under the What’s new – click on BLS for HCP on line renewal course.  Then click on topic needed – information, free demo or costs.

After completion of the program and printing a certificate (need to print the certificate at the end of program before exiting program), the participant will then contact an authorized AHA training center such as LHN Training Center to schedule a skills check.

Upon successfully completing the skills check, the participant will then be eligible to receive the HCP renewal card.

The skills check-off is free to LHN associates and $25 for non-LHN/community participants.

  1. To complete the check off portion of the renewal class, the Associate will need to:
    • Call the CPR line at 260-435-7393, ext. 1 to setup an appointment for check off
      OR
    • The Associate may be checked off by an AHA CPR Instructor from their work area.
  2. Method of renewal check off through AHA CPR Instructor from work area:
    • Contact instructor and make appointment for check off.
    • Associate to present certificate from on line program prior to check off.
    • Associate will demonstrate each CPR technique to instructor.
    • CPR card will be issued upon successful completion of skill check off.

This course does not represent sponsorship by the American Heart Association.  Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

HEARTCODE ACLS ANYWHERE - ON LINE RENEWAL

Lutheran Health Network offers free scheduled courses to all network associates for ACLS Renewal.  For those associates who choose not to attend the 8 hour renewal class, the American Heart Association has developed an on line ACLS renewal CD based program titled:  HeartCode ACLS Anywhere.  There is a $120.00 fee to down load the interactive program. This fee would be the associate’s responsibility. If you are a LHN associate and this is required for your job, you must have your manager’s approval to use this method.  To access this program, go to:  www.americanheart.org/cpr.

After successfully completing the case studies and written exam, the participant will need to print out:

  1. A certificate of online completion
  2. A skills check off sheet. 

The certificate and skills check off sheet will need to be presented to the training center at the time of skills check off.

To complete skills check off and receive new ACLS provider card:

  1. Call the ACLS line at 260-436-7393 ext. 3.
  2. Make appointment for monthly scheduled ACLS renewal class.
  3. Associate will need to complete the following skills:
    • One-rescuer adult CPR with AED (Requirement can be waived with proof of a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card).
    • Successful management of pulseless v-fib/v-tach and 2 other rhythms.
    • Airway management will be included in above scenarios and requires participant to accurately use a BVM; recognize need for advanced airway management; and appropriately utilize primary and secondary methods for confirmation of tube placement.

The skills check off fee for non-Lutheran Health Network associates is $25.00
